As a business owner, you probably already know that you are responsible to ensure your premises have fire extinguishers to be in line with UK fire safety legislation, it is a must…
As you are possibly not going to be an expert in fire safety, HSQE Consultancy can take that burden away from you.  We can you work with you and advise how many fire extinguishers you would need, what locations they should be adequately sited and what type are suitable. Depending on the type of business you are will depend on the level of fire safety required.  Prior to starting, it is advised that HSQE Consultancy undertake a fire risk assessment of your premises to help determine exactly what you need.
Our Safety Engineers are BAFE trained and competent and are also accredited, meaning you will have peace of mind knowing you are in the safe hands of professionals.  We can install range of extinguishers, including water, foam and CO2 at affordable competitive prices.  Again, our expert will advise you on the most practical and cost effective fire solution for your business.  Additionally, we can provide you with fire blankets, fire signage and, if required fire extinguisher stands if that is the more practical option, i.e. you do not want them mounted on a wall.

How Often Do Fire Extinguishers Need To Be Serviced?

There are two types of service for a Fire extinguisher. The first is a basic annual service and this is to be undertaken by a competent person as per British Standard 5306 Part 3.

Extended Service, Periodic Discharge Testing and Pressure Testing

The Second is an Extended service, which is to be conducted every five years. This is where a fire extinguisher is discharge tested (extended service or, for CO2, overhaul service) to make sure they actually work and are in good condition internally. Through good practice HSQE Consultancy do advise that you invest in new extinguishers, going forward this is actually cheaper than undertaking the discharge testing. Note: We will dispose of your old extinguishers free of charge.

Can I buy and install my own extinguishers?

Each fire extinguisher will need to be inspected by a competent person on the initial installation; better known as commissioning, stated in the British Standard 5306 part 3. Failure to have the extinguisher commissioned by a certified technician/engineer on site, runs the risk of invalidating fire insurance cover. It is also a requirement of a thorough risk assessment under the current Fire Regulations (Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005).
