My name is Mathew Oldham, Managing Director of HSQE Consultancy. For years, I’ve been immersed in health, safety, quality, and environmental consulting, growing the HSQE brand to offer a wide range of services that help companies comply with stringent UK regulations and achieve operational excellence.
Where I Came From
My journey didn’t start with immediate success but with a passion for driving safer, more compliant workplaces. I come from a background where I experienced first-hand the gaps that exist in health and safety procedures across various industries. Witnessing those challenges fuelled my desire to make a difference, and in 2011, I founded HSQE Consultancy, initially focusing on compliance services. Over time, I expanded my reach and expertise, establishing HSQE Group, HSQE Training, and HSQE Hub to offer a full-service solution for businesses across the UK.
How It All Began
Early in my career, I spent years working in different roles that exposed me to the complex nature of safety and quality assurance. These experiences drove my curiosity about how companies can better align with safety protocols while maintaining operational efficiency. What started as small consulting projects soon grew into HSQE Consultancy, a trusted name within the industry.
The Growth of HSQE Brand
Through hard work, dedication, and a clear vision, I expanded my business portfolio, leading to the creation of HSQE Group, a comprehensive company that now provides services ranging from health and safety assessments to environmental compliance. Recognising the importance of hands-on training, I launched HSQE Training, which offers both in-person and online courses designed to meet the needs of businesses looking to upskill their teams in compliance and safety protocols.
Additionally, HSQE Hub was established to centralise information, tools, and resources to support companies in their journey to compliance and operational excellence. My Military Career Before HSQE Consultancy
Before founding HSQE Consultancy, I served as a military veteran across both the UK and numerous overseas deployments. My service includes operations in Sierra Leone, Macedonia (Skopje), Cyprus, Kuwait, the United States, Canada, Kenya, Germany and Poland. I also completed two tours in Iraq, as well as deployments in Kosovo and Bosnia, contributing to peacekeeping and operational efforts across these high-intensity areas.
Throughout my career I demonstrated an unwavering commitment to duty, built on the values of resilience, leadership and adaptability. My diverse experience in international missions gave me unique insights into both the complexities of military operations and the broader challenges of global security.
I am committed to upholding the Armed Forces Covenant and supporting the entire Armed Forces Community. I recognise the contribution that all service personnel — both regular and reservist — veterans, and military families make to our organisation, community and country.
